History

Thorold Secondary School has a long and rich history and we are proud to continue the Tradition of Excellence that began when a secondary school was first established in the hamlet of Thorold in 1857. The secondary school building has stood in its present location since 1875, with several wings and layers being added over the years.

From 2007-2013, TSS saw a series of major projects that completely updated our windows, doors, fire system, electrical and lighting systems, heating and plumbing.  With a brand new gym floor and a tip-to-toe paint job, TSS is a bright, vibrant building that highlights and reflects the values of the DSBN and TSS.

The 2011-2012 school year was a pivotal one for TSS when it was involved in a review of all secondary schools in south St. Catharines and Thorold.  This process served to highlight the value of the secondary school to the City of Thorold and resulted in its endorsement by the Board of Trustees.  As a result of the process, school boundary or 'catchment' areas were adjusted to redistribute the student population in the area.  In the fall of 2013, the number of incoming grade 9 students nearly doubled and the school will continue to grow over the next few years.

In the fall of 2013, a new program was introduced to TSS.  The two Secondary School to Community classes focus on developing skills to assist students in taking up productive roles in the community after high school.  These energetic students add a wonderful dimension to our school and we are pleased to welcome these Golden Eagles.

Every day, students and staff are busy learning, working and playing both within the walls of the school and in the surrounding community.  We invite you to return to the website regularly for updates on current events at Thorold Secondary School, where students and staff strive daily to honour the school motto: Summum Petite - Seek the Highest!
