Developing leadership
skills in our students is a high priority at Thorold
Secondary School. We have created and operate
a variety of activities and programs that foster
the development opportunities offered by the Thorold community and beyond. |
| Ambassadors |
Students from Grades 9 to 12 are
nominated by the staff. Ambassadors act as guides for the Open House, Parent Nights, and Graduation
as well as other special functions. The students
at Thorold Secondary School are true ambassadors of the school. |
| Community Policing
Committee |
The Thorold Community Policing Committee is a liaison between the Thorold Community
Law Enforcement, the city of Thorold, community
members and Thorold Secondary School to promote
a positive community environment. |
| School Letter Awards |
Curricular and extra-curricular student
participation will be
recognized by receipt of a TSS School Letter upon
reaching the required point totals. There are four
categories in which to achieve this letter: Academic,
Leadership, Athletic and Arts/Activities. A TSS
School Letter would require a minimum of 40 points
in any one category. A TSS School Honour Letter
would require a total of 100 points, with a minimum
of 30 points in any three catagories. Letters will
not be awarded until the student’s graduation
year. |
| Student Council |
The Council organizes
a broad range of activities for students throughout
the year and financially supports school activities
and local charities. The council consists of an
executive and representatives from each
grade level in the school. Grade 9 representatives
are selected in September after they have settled
into school routines and are familiar with council
and its functions. |
City of Thorold
Mayor's Youth
Advisory Committee |
Representatives of Thorold Secondary School meet monthly with the Mayor and other youth in the community to plan activities for Thorold youth and discuss relevant issues and concerns. |

The Central Ontario Leadership Seminar
is a 3-day workshop for one Grade 10 student. |

With Canada |
Week long sessions held at the Terry
Fox Centre in
Ottawa, bring together students from across Canada. |
Forum For Young
Canadians |
A week for the politically minded,
in Ottawa. |
GM Winners
Program |
Grade 11 girls are selected from
Niagara Region Secondary
Schools to spend Wednesday mornings at GM from November
to May to observe and experience fields of engineering,
production and management. |
Niagara Business
Competition |
An opportunity for students from
all Niagara Region Secondary Schools to showcase
their entrepreneurial talents and enhance their
business skills. |
Ontario Student
Leadership Conference |
Provincial and Regional gathering of student leaders and advisors to develop leadership skills and share ideas to incorporate in their home schools. |
Ontario Science
Centre School |
Students are selected to study at
the Ontario Science Centre School for one semester.
Selection is based on academic records, teacher
recommendation and an interview. Grade 12 University
Level Courses are offered in Biology, Mathematics,
Chemistry, and Physics. |

A science workshop sponsored by Brock
University for Grade 11 girls which focuses on Science and Mathematics. |
